Establishment of the GYA - the Global Young Academy

MAPBOX

Formed in response to the tremendous challenges facing young scientists world-wide and science in general, the Global Young Academy (GYA) aims to:

  • provide a voice for young scientists around the world
  • promote science as a career of choice for young people
  • narrow the gap between science in the developed and developing world
  • encourage novel approaches to solve scientific problems of international significance
  • promote inter-disciplinary, international and intergenerational scientific dialogue.

The GYA was founded in Berlin following a series of discussions among young scientists convened by the IAP at the World Economic Forum “Summer Davos” meetings in China in 2008 and 2009. The 100 current GYA members include leading young scientists from around the world, selected from the IAP group of young scientists for the excellence of their science and commitment from nominations submitted by IAP Member Academies. The GYA membership will expand to 200 members serving four-year terms.  For more information on the initiative, contact the co-chairs: gweiss@uci.edunitsara.kar@biotec.or.th
