The International School of Science Education (ISSE), is taking place in Erice, Sicily, Italy, from 19 to 22 October 2024. Organized by the Ettore Majorana Foundation with support from the Amgen Biotech Experience (ABE) and EmbiTec, is featuring keynote speaker Bruce Alberts and attended by 50 educators, scientists and leaders in molecular life sciences.
The event aims to advance science education, foster inquiry-based learning and address the societal importance of science literacy.
The ISSE resumed after a four-year COVID-related hiatus, focusing on modern approaches to science education. Keynote speaker Bruce Alberts emphasized moving away from rote learning, advocating instead for inquiry-based science education to rebuild trust in scientific knowledge. Sessions highlighted innovative resources and global education programs, including the ABE, EMBL, ICTP, and initiatives by the Wellcome Connecting Science programme and Siemens Stiftung, illustrating diverse educational tools in molecular life sciences.
