Call for Nominations for IAP Leadership

Dear members of IAP,

Following the Call for Candidates circulated in September 2024, the IAP Nominations and Elections Committee was established. In conformity with the IAP Statutes approved by member academies in August 2021, the Committee is now calling for candidates for election to the IAP Board, the IAP Advisory Committee, the IAP Development and Programme Committees. Each academy will designate one representative who will be granted access to our online voting platform and will receive a unique voting link once the elections commence in July 2025. For more details on the election process and timeline, please refer to this page.

Nominations are required to fill the following positions (number of positions)

  • Co-chairs from Low and Middle-Income Country to serve on the IAP Board (3)
  • Co-chairs from High Income country to sit on the IAP Board (3)
  • Members of the Advisory Committee (5 to join the nominated members from the host Academies and the Regional Networks)
  • Members of the Academy Capacity Building Development and Programme Committee (9-12)
  • Members of the Policy Advice Development and Programme Committee (9-12)
  • Members of Communications Education and Outreach Development and Programme Committee (9-12)

Ideal candidate criteria:

  • Be recognized for significant contributions to science, medicine and engineering, including election to an IAP member academy.
  • Possess deep knowledge of current and emerging issues in science, science systems, and the evolving global science-policy landscape.
  • Support IAP's vision, mission, and activities, with personal goals and experiences aligning with those of IAP.
  • Have prior governance experience preferably within their academy, or alternatively in relevant international institutions, or an IAP governing body.
  • Demonstrate fundraising experience and a strong understanding of the global dynamics of science funding.
  • Be actively engaged in board meetings, serve on committees, and contribute to the IAP’s initiatives.

Please follow this link to the nominations form. A sample form is provided in Annex II, located on page 4 of the attached Call.

Nominations will be accepted from member academies only. Academies can nominate more than one candidate for each position using a separate form for each nominee. Candidates can be nominated for more than one position.

Co-chairs work in their individual capacities, but incumbents of the other positions are representatives of member academies. In all cases, candidates should be well supported by their academies and capable of providing advice and recommendations to IAP on behalf of their academy, and therefore be in a high-level decision-making position within their academy.

Deadline for nominations is 5 May 2025.  Elections will be held online in July 2025.

Please see the attached document for further details.

With best wishes,

Prof. Masresha Fetene, Chair, IAP Nominations and Elections Committee
