Refugee scientists from conflict zones have a few more days to apply for support.

The Rio de Janeiro State Research Support Foundation (Faperj) has extended the deadline for applications to the Luiz Pinguelli Rosa Programme for the Support of Mobility and Installation of Researchers from Conflict Regions. This initiative, aimed at supporting refugee scientists from conflict zones, will now accept submissions until 9 September 2024 at 11:59 PM (Rio de Janeiro time).

The programme seeks to foster collaboration between researchers affiliated with institutions in conflict areas and their counterparts in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, enhancing scientific, technological and innovation activities. With funding resources exceeding R$ 1.3 million, the programme will support up to 10 research projects beginning from 1 November 2024.

Selected researchers will be hosted by local scientists at science and technology institutions in Rio de Janeiro for periods ranging from 3 to 12 months. The support package includes a monthly scholarship of R$ 9,000, an installation allowance of R$ 9,000, a travel allowance of R$ 12,000 and travel insurance worth R$ 600 per month. Applications must be submitted by the local host researchers via the Faperj website.

This is the second edition of the Faperj Pinguelli Rosa Programme. The first edition saw nine researchers from Syria, Russia, Ukraine and Iran joining renowned institutions such as the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, the Fluminense Federal University and PUC-Rio.
