IPCC Call for Author Nominations: Key Information to apply

A recent IAP webinar, organised in collaboration with the IPCC Focal Point for Italy, provided an overview of the IPCC nomination process.

The session was part of a new series that aims to strengthen the participation of contributors from the Global South to IPCC Assessment Reports. Such a move would ensure that the IPCC reports include a broad knowledge base, thus increasing their comprehensiveness and policy relevance. In particular, this first webinar aimed at inform ing climate experts and representatives from IAP member academies about the process of nominating authors for IPCC Assessment Reports.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has opened a call for nominations for authors of its upcoming reports. These reports provide scientific assessments of climate change, its impacts and possible responses. Contributions from experts in low- and middle-income countries remain underrepresented, and this initiative aims to improve participation. Diversity is a top priority of the IPCC and participation in terms of both gender and geographical distribution has improved over the years. However, experts from the Global South are particularly urged to apply to strengthen the representation of countries and regions. Following the IAP webinar on 1 April, we are sharing key resources and next steps for those interested in being nominated as authors for the IPCC Seventh Assessment Report (AR7). With deadlines fast approaching, we encourage all eligible experts to apply as soon as possible.
