Bridging Science and Policy: Unveiling the alignment between global scientific insights and G7/G20 agendas

The InterAcademy Partnership (IAP) is pleased to announce the release of its latest report, A Comparative Analysis of Themes Across S- and G-Statements. The publication, supported by IAP and implemented by CultureBase Consulting, explores the thematic alignments between Science Academies’ Statements (S-Statements) and the declarations and communiqués (G-Statements) issued by G7 and G20 governments.

S-Statements are collaborative documents developed by the national science academies of G7 and G20 nations. They address critical global challenges such as climate change, health, technological innovation and economic growth, offering science-based recommendations to inform policymaking at the highest levels. By advocating for international collaboration, S-Statements serve as a vital bridge between the global scientific community and policymakers.

The newly released report systematically analyzes the correlations between S-Statements and G-Statements, revealing a strong alignment between science academies’ priorities and the goals articulated by G7 and G20 leaders. The findings highlight the important role of science academies in providing reliable expertise and advancing emerging issues for consideration in global policy frameworks. The analysis also underscores how science academies’ forward-thinking contributions help governments address complex challenges and set agendas for international collaboration.

IAP recognizes that both S- and G-Statements are products of extensive deliberation, reflecting input from diverse stakeholders. While S-Statements are essential in shaping discussions, their influence often extends beyond direct references in G-Statements, contributing to behind-the-scenes policy dialogues and subsequent initiatives.

This report represents the first public effort to systematically compare S- and G-Statements, making it a valuable resource for member academies. It not only supports strategic planning within the G7 and G20 contexts but also reaffirms the importance of evidence-based policymaking. We hope this report empowers science academies worldwide to strengthen engagement with their governments and reinforces their role as trusted partners in addressing global challenges.

IAP extends its gratitude to CultureBase Consulting for conducting the analysis and preparing the report.
