Latest activity

The academies of sciences of the countries of the Americas met in Santiago, Chile, from 5-7 May 2004, to establish the InterAmerican Network of Academies of Sciences (IANAS).

Howard Alper (Royal Society of Canada) and Hernan Chaimovich (Brazilian Academy of Sciences) were elected as Co-Chairs of the network for a three-year period from 2004 to 2007. The Academies from Chile, Mexico, Venezuela, the US and the Caribbean Scientific Union were elected as members of the Executive Board. Previous Activities - 2003
Following the IAP workshop organized by the Brazilian Academy of Sciences for science academies in Latin America and the Caribbean region in September 2002 (see below), a follow-up activity took place in Mexico City, 11-12 August 2003, for representatives from the same academies of science. Participants examined progress made on the recommendations issued at the previous workshop. The Mexican Academy of Sciences hosted the event.

2002
A workshop on capacity building for academies of science in the Latin American and Caribbean region took place in conjunction with the ICSU General Assembly, from 23-25 September 2002. The Brazilian Academy of Sciences organized and hosted this activity, modelled after the IAP capacity building initiative for academies in Africa (Trieste, May 2001). Links to:
