The National Academy of Engineering and Habitat, was created by Law dictated by the Congress of the Republic of Venezuela, dictated on September 3rd, 1998; promulgated by the National Executive of the Republic of Venezuela, on September 17th, 1998, published that same day, in the creation of the Official Gazette N° 5263 Extraordinary.
On January 21, 1999, the 35 Members were nominated by the President of the Republic, Individuals of Number, according to article 21 of the referred Law, (Official Gazette N° 36.625) and the Academy was installed, that day, in a solemn session celebrated in the Palace of the Academies, in Caracas.
The Academy is a public corporation, created by Law, with legal personality, its own assets distinct from the National Treasury, academic, organisational and economic autonomy, and has its headquarters in the city of Caracas, Venezuela.The corporation becomes part of the community of National Academies, and of the international community of Academies of Engineering, which is evidence of the importance given by the Venezuelan State to the professions of Engineering, Architecture, Urban Planning and related professions, and of the importance of the Habitat for society in general. In Venezuela as of 1998, the Venezuelan College of Engineers, founded in 1861, is made up of some 120,000 Members, Engineers, Architects and related Professionals, in more than a hundred specialities. The Academy has 35 Members, Full Members, with professions covered by the Law on the Practice of Engineering, Architecture and Related Professions, and Members of the College of Engineers of Venezuela.The National Academy of Engineering and Habitat is destined to render great services to Venezuela, to the Venezuelan society and to the international professional and academic community.
