Session 13: Inclusion and Participation of Women in Science Academies

The discussion will focus on women’s membership and participation in science academies. The findings of a recent (2021) survey of 85 academies led by GenderInSITE in collaboration with the IAP and the International Science Council will be presented. Comparisons with a similar survey undertaken in 2015 will be made to assess progress in gender transformation. Best practice case studies will be presented from the Australian Academy of Science where gender transformation has received serious attention, and the Global Young Academy (GYA) to discuss strategies employed by young academies to achieve better gender balance than senior academies.
