Biography

Dr Ahmad Tajuddin Ali is the President of The Academy of Sciences Malaysia. He is also the Chairman of UEM Group, a Malaysian infrastructure conglomerate involved in property development, toll highways ownership and operation, engineering and construction, asset and facilities management and cement manufacturing.

Earlier in his career, Dr Tajuddin Ali has served as the Director-General of Standards and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia (SIRIM), then the Executive Chairman of Tenaga Nasional Berhad(TNB), Malaysia’s national power company.

An Engineer by training, Dr Tajuddin Ali graduated with First Class Honours in Mechanical Engineering from King's College, University of London in 1973 and obtained his doctorate in Nuclear Engineering from Queen Mary College, University of London in 1977. He did post-doctoral work in nuclear engineering at Oregon State University (1977-1978) and at Pennsylvania State University (1978).

Dr Tajuddin Ali is currently a member of the Governing Council of the International Institute of Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) in Laxenburg, Austria and also a member of APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC).
