Professor and Research Director at the University of Sciences and Technology
Khedidja Allia is a Chemical Engineering and Research Director Professor with extensive experience in teaching, research, and supervising Ph.D. and master's students. She began her academic career at the École Nationale Polytechnique (ENP) in Algiers and later founded the Industrial Chemistry Institute at the University of Sciences and Technology (USTHB) in Algiers. Prof. Allia holds an Engineering Diploma in Chemical Engineering from ENP and completed postgraduate studies in Fluid Mechanics at the University of Algiers, along with a Doctorate in Chemical Engineering from ENP and studies at Thames Polytechnic in London.
Her research focuses on multiphase systems, including two-phase flows and three-phase fluidized bed reactors, as well as environmental engineering topics like wastewater treatment and solid waste management. She also explores the intersections of engineering education with social sciences, particularly ethics and disaster risk reduction. Prof. Allia's contributions have been published in scientific journals and presented at various national and international conferences. She has participated in numerous research projects, including CNEPRU, PNR, and Powder Technology at the University of Compiegne, France. Prof. Allia has served as a researcher at DRD (SONATRACH), a Fulbright Researcher at Cornell University, Dept of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering in Ithaca, and an expert for UNESCO.
She has held leadership positions, including Director of the North African Centre for Engineering and Technology Education (NACETE), a satellite of UICEE – UNESCO. Prof. Allia also served as Director of Higher Education in the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MESRS) and as Director of the Industrial Chemistry Institute at USTHB. Additionally, she was Head of the Chemical Engineering Department at ENP and chaired the scientific councils of both the Industrial Chemistry Institute and the Chemical Engineering Department at ENP. She coordinated commissions on higher education reform and the adequacy of training in industrial chemistry and led the Maghreb Equivalence Systems Commission, as well as PURAQ (Pôle Universitaire et de recherches Algéro-Québécois).
Prof. Allia was member of A.I.C.H.E and the Arab Network for Environmental Ethics (ANEE). She is a founding member of AFCARE (Association of Women Managers) and chairs the Algerian Scientific Association for Promoting Engineering Sciences (TAHENDUS). As a member of the Advisory Committee of the Bioethics Arab Region Network, she has contributed to ethical discussions in 2013 under the auspice of UNESCO. Prof. Allia has received several honors, including recognition from the President of Algeria, a Silver Medal in Mumbai, a Gold Medal from Brooklyn Polytechnic University, and the Order for Excellence in Engineering Education at the Piraeus Technical Institute in Greece , from UNESCO’s UICEE.
She is a founding member of AAST and has chaired the Commission for Scientific and Technological Communication and Mediatization (CCMST). Additionally, she serves on two IAP committees: the Statements Governance Committee and the Capacity Building Committee. In 2024, she joined the International Advisory Committee of ICOME2024, a conference co-organized by IEEE Thailand, and will also be part of the IAP Science Education Program.
