Biography

A Mexican-British cosmologist who is currently Ogden Professor of Fundamental Physics at Durham University, Carlos Frenk has also long been committed to the public dissemination of basic science. His research interests revolve around extragalactic astronomy and cosmology, supercomputer simulations, mathematical modelling and fluid dynamics. Amongst other awards, his research has led to him being elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 2004 and winning the Gold Medal of the Royal Astronomical Society in 2014. Aside from his research, Carlos has been a strong advocate of public engagement with science both in the UK and
internationally. He has chaired the Royal Society’s Public Engagement Committee and has sat on the Society’s International Programmes Advisory Group.
