Edward HM Wang, MD, MSc is an Academician of the National Academy of Science and Technology, Professor of Orthopedics and Vice Chancellor for Research at the University of the Philippines, Manila, and Project Leader of the University of the Philippines Surgical Innovation and Biotechnology Laboratory (UP SIBOL). Academician Wang is the visionary behind the establishment of the UP-SIBOL. Initially intended to address the inequities in accessing biomedical devices for the common Filipino, the pandemic pushed him to reorganize the group to address the more pressing problems at the time. He organized volunteers from multiple disciplines and generations breaking the traditional innovation strategies in the country.
