Henry Cohen is a distinguished member and past president (2020) of Academia Nacional de Medicina de Uruguay. He is an internationally recognized leader in gastroenterological medicine, who has received the following distinctions: Master of the Asociación Interamericana de Gastroenterología (2010); International Leadership Award of the American College of Gastroenterology (2014); President and Master of World Gastroenterology Organization (2019); Coordinator of Grupo Asesor Científico Honorario para la pandemia (Uruguay, 2020) and Médaille du Senate, France (2021). Dr. Henry Cohen has dedicated his professional career as professor and Chairman of Gastroenterology at the Hospital de Clínicas (Universidad de la República, Uruguay). Over the last years he has been Director of “Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes Project”, Uruguay (www.echo.unm.edu). As president of the World Gastroenterology Organization, he has participated in activities focused on the education of the gastroenterologist, developing programs for training the trainers and also in the development of clinical guides in six
languages on the main diseases of the specialty.
