Keiko Nakamura

Keiko Nakamura, MD, PhD, is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Global Health Entrepreneurship, at the Medical and Dental Division of the Institute of Science Tokyo (Science Tokyo), formerly called, Tokyo Medical and Dental University. She has been the Director of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Healthy Cities and Urban Policy Research for the last 8 years and serves as the Head of the Secretariat of the Alliance for Healthy Cities, a network of Healthy Cities in the Western Pacific Region of WHO. She is the Chair of the Environmental Risk Subcommittee of the Science Council of Japan. She has researched health and environment in urban areas, with a particular focus on urban environment and health; population aging; health promotion; determinants of health; healthy cities and urban policy; use of information technology in health services; community-based care; healthcare workforce migration; public health emergencies; and planetary health. She is leading two implementation science research projects of the Global Alliance for Chronic Diseases, including the one in the Healthy Cities research program in the Philippines and Tanzania. She has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and has been closely working with various institutions and levels of government through research, planning and implementing healthy cities, and networking. She is the current Representative of the Leadership Council for Hygiene and Public Health Education in Japan.
