Biography

Sunday Ene-Ojo Atawodi received a bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 1982, and MSc and Ph.D. degrees in Biochemistry from the University of Ibadan in 1987 and 1992, respectively. He attained the rank of full Professor of Biochemistry at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 2004. Professor Atawodi won many competitive research fellowships, including that of German Academic Exchange Scholar (DAAD), Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (AvH) postdoctoral fellowship and Visiting Professorship, International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) Temporary Consultancy/Special Training Award Fellowship, and the ICRETT fellowship of the International Union Against Cancer (UICC). He was the head of the Biochemistry Department and Deputy Dean of Science, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He is also a member of the National Research Fund Screening & Monitoring Committee of Tetfund, acts as a Consultant/Resource Person to several national and international organizations, including National Universities Commission (NUC), ECOWAS Commission, UNICEF, and AU Scientific, Technical & Research Commission. He is a Fellow, Association of International Union against Cancer Fellows; Fellow and immediate past Public Affairs Secretary of the prestigious Nigerian Academy of Science (NAS), where he is currently the Academic Secretary (Biological). He is also a Fellow, African Science Leadership Program (ASLP), as well as Foundation Fellow, Academy of Medicine Specialties. He was Chairman, Panel of Judges, Nigeria Science Media Prize (2016-2018), Member of the Panel of Judges, Nigeria LNG Science Prize (2016-2017). Professor Atawodi was a Member of the Governing Council, Kogi State University, Anyigba, Kogi State between 2016 and 2020. He is a Member, Board of Trustees, Igala Education Foundation (IEF).
