Dr. Umesh Kapil, holding an MD in Community Medicine from AIIMS and a DNB in Maternal and Child Health from the NBE, currently serves as a Professor and Secretary at the National Academy of Medical Sciences in Ansari Nagar, Ring Road, New Delhi-110029, India. Throughout his career, Dr. Kapil has made significant contributions to academic literature with a substantial number of publications. These include 319 articles in indexed journals, 53 in non-indexed national journals, and 15 in non-indexed international journals, alongside 27 scientific monographs/technical reports, 15 books/chapters in books, and 48 popular scientific articles. In recognition of his outstanding work, Dr. Kapil has received numerous awards and honors. Notably, he has been awarded the B C Srivastava Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) National Award in 1992, the M.K. Seshadri ICMR National Award in 1996, the P.N. Raju ICMR National Award in 2002, and the Hargovind National Award of IAP in 2009. Additionally, he has received the Senior Scientist Award from the Nutrition Society of India in 1992 and has been elected as a Fellow of various prestigious organizations including the National Academy of Medical Sciences in 2003, the Indian Public Health Association in 1993, and the Indian Association of Preventive and Social Medicine in 1998.
