William Yan
Medical Doctor (Resident, Ophthalmology) PhD Candidate
William is a surgical resident and researcher at the Centre for Eye Research Australia (CERA), a non-profit eye research institute that is ranked in the top-four globally. He is currently working with Google to bring digital vision assessments to rural and remote Australian communities. William’s work has been published in international peer-reviewed journals including Ophthalmology and JAMA Ophthalmology, and he has been invited to present at international conferences including the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO 2016, 2017) and the G20 Thinktank (2017). He is currently a senior editor for the Journal of Mobile Technology in Medicine (JMTM), a peer-reviewed publication with a focus on how mHealth innovation can improve clinical outcomes. William holds a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery from Monash University, Australia. He is currently a PhD Candidate in Ophthalmology and Vision Science at The University of Melbourne, Australia. William’s research interests lie in ophthalmic epidemiology and the use of technology-driven solutions to improve specialist access and to prevent blindness. William lives in Melbourne with his family and in his spare time enjoys travelling, reading, networking with local startups and supporting other young health entrepreneurs.
