Zoran Knežević
Zoran Knežević, born in Osijek in 1949, is a distinguished figure in the field of astronomy, particularly renowned for his expertise in celestial mechanics. He holds a full membership in the Department of Mathematics, Physics, and Geosciences.
Knežević's association with the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SASA) spans several significant milestones. Initially appointed as a corresponding member on November 5, 2009, he ascended to full membership on the same date in 2015. His educational journey commenced with undergraduate studies at the Faculty of Science, University of Belgrade, culminating in a PhD degree earned in 1989. Knežević's illustrious career at the Belgrade Astronomical Observatory stretched from 1973 to 2016, during which he served as its Director from 2002 to 2014.
Within SASA, Knežević has held various pivotal positions, including Deputy Department Secretary (2015-2020), President of SASA Board for Science (2017−2022), SASA General Secretary (2020–2023), and currently as SASA President since 2023. He actively contributes to specialist associations such as the International Astronomical Union, where he served as the president of Commission 7 for Celestial Mechanics and Dynamical Astronomy from 2009 to 2012, and the American Astronomical Society among others.
Furthermore, Knežević's editorial roles include serving as editor-in-chief for the Serbian Astronomical Journal and Publications of the Astronomical Observatory of Belgrade from 2002 to 2014. His remarkable achievements have been duly recognized through awards such as the prestigious Asteroid (3900) Knežević and multiple accolades from the Astronomical Observatory for his significant contributions to the field.
