During April–June 2022, the Academy of Medical Sciences and the InterAcademy Partnership organised a series of workshops which convened participants from a broad range of countries to discuss the COVID-19 pandemic’s impact on health inequalities, with a focus on the role of Universal Health Coverage (UHC). The meetings aimed to identify how research could help to map out a pathway to more equitable health outcomes as the world recovers from the acute phase of the pandemic, and support efforts in the event of a future health emergency. Participants from 25 countries came together to prepare the following communique to guide a coordinated international research response to understand and address health inequalities and accelerate progress towards universal health coverage.
This communiqué and its proposed framework are endorsed by the InterAcademy Partnership and the Academy of Medical Sciences.
This communiqué is available also in Spanish.
