Rural children are generally not interested in studying science, due to lack of exposure to scientific ideas as well as to the limited availability of science education in rural secondary schools. Science taught in schools is mainly examination-oriented and not meant to stimulate interest among children. The National Academy of Sciences of Sri Lanka initiated a programme to stimulate interest in science among secondary school children in rural areas using ICT.
