Go to websiteImproving science communication, championing formal and informal science education (SE) and fostering citizen science literacy are crucial for sustained economic growth and human welfare. Existing national programmes, which have already brought expertise about inquiry-based science education (IBSE), especially in primary and lower secondary schools in Europe, must also provide teacher professional development (TPD) in science. This project would help to upscale and mainstream these programmes, and disseminate the know-how gained in Europe unto a region around the Mediterranean basin that share strong and ancient scientific and political links. The French and Italian science academies, leading members of the IAP SE programme, will organize a conference for 20 European, Mediterranean and African countries to (i) foster cooperation and bilateral twinnings on IBSE and informal SE and pool resources for TPD; and (ii) raise awareness of education Ministries for promoting TPD in science and strengthen their partnerships with their national science Academies.
