The IAP General Assembly agreed to establish a Biosecurity Working Group in 2003, designed especially to link with the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention (BWC). Activities include the promotion of responsible research practices and links with the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). A new IAP Biosecurity Working Group (BWG) was
established in 2020 following a process of nominations of suitable experts by member academies. Current BWG members are from Argentina, Brazil, China, Egypt, Georgia, Germany, Ghana, Italy, Pakistan, Philippines, Russia, South Africa, Tinidad & Tobago, the United Kingdom and the United States.
