OPCW - workshop: call for nominations

The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons announces third workshop on “Policy and Diplomacy for Scientists: Introduction to Responsible Research Practices in Chemical and Biochemical Sciences”.

The Technical Secretariat of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) is organizing the third edition of the workshop on “Policy and Diplomacy for Scientists: Introduction to Responsible Research Practices in Chemical and Biochemical Sciences” in collaboration with The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) and the InterAcademy Partnership (IAP). The event will take place in Trieste, Italy, from 9 to 13 September 2019.

The objective of the workshop is to raise awareness among young scientists on the policy and diplomacy aspects that are related to the use of chemicals in various scientific disciplines, including chemistry, biochemistry, biotechnology, and other related fields.

The first workshop in this series was held in Pretoria, South Africa, in October 2016, while the second one was held in Trieste in September 2017.

The call for nominations is now open until 28 June 2019.

The workshop is open to those who:
(a) have a PhD in natural sciences (for example chemistry, biology, physics, geology) or related engineering from a recognised university or institution;
(b) are citizens of OPCW Member States;
(c) have been working in the field of applied chemical or biochemical or related sciences (research, academia, or industry) for at least five years; and
(d) are young scientists at the beginning of their scientific career (i.e. who have received their PhD within the past 10 years and are under tha age of 40).
