Urgent Call for Transformative Change: EASAC Commentary Launch Event

IAP’s European regional network, the European Academies Science Advisory Council (EASAC), is set to launch its latest commentary, Increasing Urgency for Transformative Change, at an online event on 6 March 2025, from 13:00 to 14:00 CET.

The publication underscores a stark reality: while the scale of global crises continues to intensify, political momentum for the necessary transformative change remains insufficient. Key barriers include legal constraints, entrenched corporate interests, and shifting political priorities. Misinformation and greenwashing further delay effective action, while outdated economic models and persistent fossil fuel subsidies hinder progress. Despite global commitments, policies continue to fall short of the decisive action needed.

EASAC’s commentary presents compelling evidence of these worsening trends and evaluates current EU policy responses. It also explores policy pathways that could drive transformative change across Europe.
