The fourth "IAP Conference of Young Scientists" was held in conjunction with the World Economic Forum's Annual Meeting of the New Champions (also known as "Summer Davos") in Dalian, China, from 13-16 September 2011.
The World Economic Forum and IAP facilitated the participation of just over 40 outstanding young scientists in the event, integrated into the Forum's meeting which involved around 1500 participants.
The Meeting, this year on the theme "Mastering a New Business Matrix" was organized on the basis of round table discussions with a number of sessions held in parallel.
IAP issued a call for nominations for young scientists. A selection committee reviewed all nominations and successful candidates were contacted. Preference was given to candidates with demonstrated experience of engaging with "wider society", for example involvement in science policy, public debates, involvement with industry or NGOs, promoting science in schools or international collaborations, as well as those having outstanding communications and interpersonal skills.
The young scientists activities in Dalian included:
- Young Scientists Community Workshop
- Dalian Industrial Visit and Dalian Maritime University Visit
- Breakfast Workshop Session
- Private Meeting with Ministers of Science and Technology
